Imagination is the only weapon in the war against reality. –Lewis Carroll
Jojo had wandered through the museum all day, completely captivated by the towering statues, famous paintings, and ancient artifacts. When she found a quiet bench tucked in a dark corner, her legs were begging for a break. She sat down for a moment, but exhaustion took over, and her eyes fluttered shut.
While she slept, the museum closed for the night. The security guard locked up, unaware that Jojo was still inside. Hours passed before she jolted awake to eerie whispers, distant footsteps, and what sounded like laughter.
Confused and dizzy, Jojo rubbed her eyes and sat up. That’s when she saw it—the statues were moving. The paintings were whispering to each other. Objects floated off their pedestals. The entire museum had come to life.
Her heart raced as she backed away, thinking she might still be dreaming. But then, a suit of armor stepped forward and bowed, a Renaissance painting winked at her, and a dinosaur skeleton let out a playful roar. Panic gave way to curiosity. Was this really happening?
Before long, Jojo was swept up in the magic of it all. She climbed onto the back of the dinosaur skeleton, laughing as it galloped through the grand halls. She raced with ancient statues, danced under moonlight streaming through the museum windows, and played hide-and-seek with mischievous artifacts that darted and floated around her.
But not everything in the museum welcomed her presence. An ancient statue—a stern, scowling ruler with sharp features—watched Jojo disdainfully.
“You don’t belong here,” he muttered, his stone eyes narrowing. Determined to rid the museum of this intruder, the statue plotted in the shadows, watching for the perfect moment to strike. As Jojo joyfully explored the museum, the grumpy statue made his move. He slammed doors behind her, sent artifacts crashing down in her path, and whispered threateningly from the shadows. But each time, Jojo escaped—unaware of just how close she’d come to danger.
Finally, the statue lured Jojo into the dark, forgotten corner of the museum. There, in the center of the room, was a large pit. Jojo sensed something was wrong, but before she could react, the statue lunged forward and shoved her. She stumbled, arms flailing, and plunged into the darkness. Her heart pounded, and just as the ground rushed up to meet her—everything went black. Jojo gasped awake, her body trembling. The museum’s security guard stood over her, gently shaking her shoulder.
“Miss, you’ve been here all night. It’s morning—time to go.”
Breathless, Jojo looked around. She was still on the bench. The museum was quiet, still, and perfectly normal. It had all been a dream. But as she left the museum, she cast a glance over her shoulder at the cranky statue. For just a second, she could have swears it glared at her. Then, it was still again. Or… was it?
