Music is the divine way to tell beautiful, poetic things to the heart. –Pablo Casals

Lately, Mr. Johnson had been grappling with forgetfulness, a troubling development for a man who had spent countless hours bringing music to life on his beloved piano. The notes that once flowed effortlessly from his fingers now seemed elusive, and he often found himself lost in a fog of memory.

One afternoon, as he sat at his piano, Mr. Johnson tried to play his favorite tune—a piece he had played so many times before. But no matter how hard he tried, the melody slipped through his mind like sand through his fingers.

“Come on, Johnson,” he muttered to himself, his frustration mounting. “You know this.” Unable to recall the tune, he decided to take a walk, hoping that the familiar sounds of the neighborhood might jog his memory. He stepped out of the house and wandered through the park, where the lively chirping of birds and the laughter of children playing filled the air.

The warmth of the sun and the gentle rustling of leaves brought a temporary sense of calm, but the elusive melody continued to evade him. He strolled by the train tracks, where the rhythmic trains’ chugging had always been a comforting sound, reminding him of simpler times. Each clatter of the wheels on the tracks seemed to echo a note he couldn’t quite grasp.

The familiar sights and sounds now seemed to mock him with their normalcy as his own thoughts remained disjointed. Despite his efforts to immerse himself in the environment, hoping it would spark a memory or bring a hint of the forgotten tune, the melody remained just out of reach. Disheartened and feeling a deep sense of loss and frustration, Mr. Johnson slowly made his way back home, his heart heavy with the weight of his fading memories.

As he walked through the front door, Mrs. Johnson looked up from her knitting, immediately sensing his distress. She had seen the signs of his forgetfulness creeping in and had done her best to support him, but seeing him so troubled broke her heart.

“Did you find what you were looking for?” she asked gently, setting her knitting aside.

Mr. Johnson shook his head. “No, I just can’t seem to remember that tune, no matter how hard I try.”

She stood up, walked over to him, and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. “Maybe I can help,” she said softly.

She began to hum the melody, her voice gentle and familiar. Her humming sound filled the room, wrapping around Mr. Johnson like a warm embrace. Slowly, the fog in his mind began to lift, and the notes of the forgotten melody started to come back to him.

As Mrs. Johnson continued to hum, Mr. Johnson’s fingers found their way to the piano keys. He tentatively played a few notes, and then, with growing confidence, the melody began to take shape under his hands. The music flowed once more, filling the room with its beautiful, haunting sound. Tears welled up in his eyes as he played, feeling a profound sense of relief and gratitude. He looked over at Mrs. Johnson, who smiled at him, her eyes shining with love and pride.
