It’s a funny thing; the more I practice, the luckier I get. –Arnold Palmer

Grandpa Harold had recently taken up golfing, much to the amusement and skepticism of his friends—all retired doctors—at the retirement home who couldn’t resist teasing him about his new hobby.

“Golf, Harold? Really?” Dr. Samuels smirked. “I thought you were more of a chess man.”

“I needed something new,” Harold retorted with a wink. “And besides, I’ve got a surprise that will make it worth your while.”

The next Saturday, Harold invited his friends for a round of golf at the local course. They gathered, still chuckling at the thought of their friend trying his hand at the sport. Harold unveiled his surprise: a bag full of rubber ducks.

“What in the world, Harold?” Dr. Benson exclaimed, picking up one of the ducks and giving it a squeeze, eliciting a cheerful quack.

“These,” Harold said with a grin, “are our golf balls for the day. Let’s see who the real quacks are now!”

“You’re a madman, Harold,” Dr. Benson said. Amused and intrigued, the friends agreed to Harold’s quirky idea. They set off to the first hole, each with a rubber duck. Dr. Samuels had the first game. He lined up his duck and took a swing.

“Quaaaackkk!!!” The rubber duck whistled all the way across the field, and the three men burst into laughter.

“Nice shot, Samuels!” Harold laughed. “But you still sound like you’re a quack doctor!”

“Oh, this is gonna be so much fun!” Dr. Samuels exclaimed, positioning himself to take a turn. The sight of elderly gentlemen in golfing attire swinging at quacking rubber ducks caught the attention of other golfers and staff quickly, drawing a curious crowd. As the game progressed, the air became filled with the sound of quacking ducks. Each hit sent the ducks quacking and bouncing erratically, turning the game into a hilarious spectacle. Dr. Samuels lined up his shot.

“Fore!” he shouted dramatically before sending his duck sailing through the air, quacking all the way. The duck quacked loudly, veered off course, and landed in a nearby pond. The group burst into laughter.

“Looks like you’re all wet, Samuels!” Harold teased, wiping tears of mirth from his eyes.

“You’ve really outdone yourself, Harold,” Dr. Benson admitted, grinning. “This is the most fun I’ve had in years.”

As the day wore on, the friends continued their playful competition, cheering each other on and teasing good-naturedly. They discovered that the true joy lay in the shared experience and lighthearted moments they created together.

“Another quack-tastic shot, Harold!” Dr. Samuels called out as Harold’s duck landed surprisingly close to the hole.

“Thanks, but you’re still the quackiest of them all,” Harold retorted with a wink. By the end of the day, the friends gathered their ducks and posed for a group photo, each holding their favorite quacking golf ball.
