The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree is the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other. –Burton Hillis
It was a few days before Christmas, and the house was buzzing with activity. Grandma Alice had been busy baking cookies in the kitchen when she realized her glasses were missing.
“Oh, dear, I’ve misplaced my glasses again,” Alice sighed, squinting at the cookie dough.
“Don’t worry, Grandma, we’ll help you find them!” her grandson Jake declared, rallying the family into action. The entire family—Alice’s daughter Mary, her son-in-law Tom, and her grandchildren Jake and Lily—started searching. The hunt for Alice’s glasses took them through every room of the house, each space filled with its own set of memories.
First, they ventured into the attic, a place brimming with old photo albums and Christmas decorations.
“Remember these?” Mary said, pulling out a dusty album. “We used to look through these every Christmas Eve.” She and Alice had spent countless hours reminiscing over these photos, laughing at old hairstyles and clothes.
Next, they moved to the living room. Jake paused, looking at the couch and coffee table.
“Grandma, remember when we used to build forts here?” Jake asked, a smile spreading across his face.
Alice chuckled. “Of course I do. You and your friends turned this place into a battlefield of pillows and blankets.”
In the kitchen, Mary recalled baking cookies with her mother. “Mom, I remember standing on this stool, helping you roll out cookie dough,” she said, pointing to a small wooden stool.
“And you always managed to get more flour on yourself than on the counter,” Alice teased, eliciting a laugh from everyone. The search extended to the garden, where Alice loved to tend her flowers.
“Grandma, you taught me all about flowers and plants here,” Lily said, gently touching a rose bush.
“And you have a real green thumb now. I’m so proud of you.” Alice smiled.
In the garage, memories of Grandpa filled the air. “Grandpa used to work on his car here, and you were always by his side, handing him tools,” Tom said, looking at the old tool bench.
“He loved that old car. We had so many good times here.” Alice nodded a tear in her eye.
After searching high and low, they finally returned to the kitchen. Jake, feeling peckish, reached for a cookie from the jar on the counter and stopped in his tracks.
“Hey, look what I found!” Jake exclaimed, holding up Alice’s glasses. Everyone gathered around, laughing as they realized where the glasses had been all along. Alice chuckled, shaking her head, feeling embarrassed.
